On the morning of August 12, 2026, the Hanoi University of Public Health (HUPH) organized a training session on “The Application of Claude AI in Academic Activities”, with the participation of members of the university’s core groups responsible for developing and implementing AI applications.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Minh, President of HUPH, shared his experience in using AI in professional activities and encouraged faculty members and staff to proactively explore and apply AI tools to enhance work efficiency and respond to the emerging demands of digital transformation.

The training program focused on two main areas:

• An introduction to Claude AI, its key features, and its potential applications in professional activities.

• The application of Claude in academic activities.

During the training session, Mr. Cao Huu Quang, MSc, from the Information Technology Center, provided practical guidance on configuring roles for Claude AI, creating Skills and prompts, managing Projects, and comparing Claude with other AI tools.

Assoc. Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Bich, Head of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Health and Development Studies, shared insights into the strengths and limitations of Claude, as well as important considerations for its use in academic activities. She also introduced a framework for working with AI that emphasizes effectiveness, efficiency, ethics, and safety.

The practical component of the training was conducted in groups, with exercises closely aligned with participants’ actual professional tasks. Faculty members and researchers also shared their personal experiences in research and AI applications, fostering discussions on how to leverage AI effectively, responsibly, and appropriately across different areas of expertise.

Importantly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Bich emphasized that, despite the significant advantages of AI and its ability to provide effective support across many stages of professional work, the human element remains indispensable and decisive. Users must actively verify, review, and critically evaluate AI-generated information and remain accountable for the final outputs. Professional judgments and final decisions must ultimately be made by humans. This principle is particularly important when considering the use of AI in scientific research, as well as in editorial and publishing activities.

The team from the Journal of Health and Development Studies participated in the training with the aim of exploring and piloting the application of Claude AI in selected editorial workflows, particularly manuscript submission, initial screening and review, and support for the peer-review process, while ensuring compliance with principles of publication ethics, information confidentiality, and research integrity.

In the context of digital transformation bringing profound changes to education and research, strengthening the capacity to use artificial intelligence (AI) has become an important and practical requirement for faculty members, researchers, and professional staff. At the same time, AI can serve as a valuable supporting partner, helping improve efficiency in both administrative tasks and management activities.
