Impact of communication intervention on cervical cancer screening intention among married women aged 15-49 in Chi Linh, Hai Duong

Objective: Cervical cancer is the most leading causes of death in women aged 15-49. Cervical cancer screening is asserted an important solution to reduce the burden and early death caused by cervical cancer. A communication intervention aimed at promoting cervical cancer screening of women was implemented in Chi Linh, Hai Duong from 4/2015 to 4/2016.

Methods: This study was conducted in July 2016 by interviewing 320 married women aged 15-49, and used describe statistical techniques and propensity score matching (PSM) to measure the impact of the intervention on cervical cancer screening intention of participants.

Results: The result shows that 90,6% women have had cervical cancer screening intention. PSM demonstrated that exposing to the communication intervention impact significantly on cervical cancer screening intention of women in Chi Linh, increasing by 7,9% (corresponding to 158 women) (p<0,05).

Conclusions: This is evidence for the strengthening and development of communication interventions for cervical cancer prevention in future in Vietnam.
