Work engagement and associated factors among clinical nurses in Pho Noi General Hospital, Hung Yen Province, Vietnam, in 2022

Objective: To describe the work engagement and associated factors among clinical nurses at Pho Noi General Hospital in Hung Yen province during the COVID-19 epidemic in 2022.

Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted in Pho Noi General Hospital in Hung Yen province in 2022 to collect data on work engagement and related factors using the self-reported Utrecht work engagement scale (UWES-9). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Independent Sample T-Test, One-Way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis to examine relationships between work engagement and related factors.

Results: The total mean score of work engagement was 3.98 (SD = 1.28). The mean scores for dedication, vigor, and absorption subscales were 4.11 (SD = 1.37), 4.09 (SD = 1.33), and 3.73 (SD = 1.32), respectively. The analysis results showed that the work department, stress, depression, anxiety, and experience of COVID-19-related violence were significantly correlated with work engagement among nurses.

Conclusions: Nurses participating in the study have a medium level of work engagement.      Pho Noi General Hospital should conduct surveys or discussions with clinical nurses to improve the work environment and increase their work engagement. Hospital management should also pay attention to issues related to the mental health of employees by conducting a survey annually using the DASS-21 scale      to provide timely solutions.
